Camera Movements Movie

Gender Representation

The long shot shows the costume choices for the Fairy Godmother, bright colours show her flamboyant character. The mise en scene used makes the costumes stand out against the darkness.  This being the first time you see the character she explodes onto the screen with bright colours and a bold outfit

This mid shot shows the golden carriage, the colours used connote royalty and power. The Fairy Godmother is slightly posed to the left but still takes up a third of the shot; it shows her control of things and her power.

The close up is used to show her facial expression and disgust when looking at something below her; the blue collar and blonde hair show her purity and femininity. Her rosy cheeks and pink lip makes her look all together and perfect for the role she plays the ‘motherly’ role.

The Avengers, Scarlett Johansson, Black Widow

In this shot Scarlett Johansson is in the middle of all the action performing an action move, which shows her heroic characteristics. However show is wearing a full leather outfit, which makes her sexualised.  This makes her an ideal fantasy woman for men because she portrayed as a strong, sexual character. The Hulk is covering the left side of the shot, and Scarlett is quite small, which shows she is not an important character in this scene

In this shot Scarlett Johansson is in the darker side but being pulled over to the brighter side to Bruce Banner by the sexual tension between the two of them. This makes Scarlett’s character very sexualised.  This shot is a close up on the facial expressions of the black widow and Bruce Banner to show that they are the focus of this scene and we as the audience are focusing on the sexual tension between them.

In this shot Scarlett Johansson is very sexualised by the clothing she is wearing. She is wearing a skin-tight leather outfit and the zip on her top is pulled down a little to reveal her skin. This shows that she is using her sexuality to defat her opponent. The colour around her is very dull, which makes us as the audience focus on her and nothing else.

In this show Scarlett Johansson is on the far left side which shows she has less authority compared to the other men in this scene. However I can see by the way she is standing that she is more dominant than Bruce Banner because standing taller and with more confidence. She is wearing a full leather outfit to make her sexualised and also her zip is a little down to show more of her skin to again sexualise Scarlett Johansson’s character.

The Hunger Games, Jennifer Lawrence, Katniss Everdeen
The close up helps us as the audience to see how determined the character looks. This could suggest the character is independent, and a strong woman. Her eyes seemed to be focus on something along with the fact the female character is with all male characters and all seemed to be focused, could percieve her to belong to this male stereotype of being strong and determined.

This mid shot of us looking upwards towards the character, implies how powerful and strong the character is. Additionally her holding the bow and arrow portrays the female character to perhaps be dangerous and courageous; typically the male character would be seen in films to hold the weapon, where as this film subverts from that by the protaganist, Katniss, holding the weapon and taking the male’s place. In addition the dark lighting suggests a mysterious sense which surrounds the character, and that she is unpredictable therefore as the  audience we don’t assume Katniss to be weak.

In this shot the close up helps us to identify the character to be determined through her facial expressions, which is supported by what she is doing. Her drawing back the arrow shows how she could be seen as dangerous, and is willing to fight within a war like situation. The en tip of the arrow is red which could represent danger and blood, as a result of Katniss fighting.
